Books Galore

Books, books, books...
everywhere I turned there were more books!
It's like I had stepped into a dream world...a little piece of heaven.

Now I know that you're thinking,
"Oh, Lori...We already know about Powell's Books in Portland.  You silly goose!"
I know...I know.
Powell's is the mecca for all those in search of new, used, and treasured titles novels.
People have been known to travel, just to step foot through their hallowed doorways.
I too have spent many afternoons,
that stretch into evenings wandering it's shelves and browsing obscure titles.
But what if you're not in Portland?
Have you ever been to the Oregon Coast
and needed something new to read as you gaze at the sea?
I have.
And let me tell you, it's not so easy to find quality used books.
Well, unless you want John Gresham or some sappy romance.
If that's all you're seeking, then there are plenty of place to go.
But me, well...over Spring Break,
I wanted "new" books and I wasn't wanting a sappy romance.
So what is a nerdy book girl to do?!
Well, it's a good thing that I was in Lincoln City, Oregon.
Though it isn't as big as Powell's, it was a dream come true to this book hoarding gal.

Now don't be fooled by the non-nonchalant exterior...
this place is stuffed with surprises.
I love walking into this store.
Immediately you're surrounded by books!
Some old, some new,
but there is a beautiful thing walking into a used book store.
I feel like I'm on a quest...
but the treasure is a huge surprise.
During this visit, I was on a hunt for two things,
mystery novels and cookbooks.
Both were in abundance there and I walked out with an armful of both,
and a huge smile on my face.
So next time you're in Lincoln City, Oregon,
I recommend that you step into the paradise of used books.
Get lost in Robert's Book Shop.
And you will get lost around each doorway and narrow pathway.
But you will be surrounded by books,
so you will never actually be lost.

By the Sea

Murphy and I breathe better along the Oregon Coast.
We just do.
I know that some people dream of a warm beach...
always sunny with water like a bath tub...
I like that too, for a fun vacation spot.
But when I want to relax and just breathe, I head here.
Perfection.
Just look at that sky!  Look!

Warm?
That day, yes.
A perfect 60 degrees, and for this gal it was warm.
Don't judge me...Spring has just started and it's been chilly.
So, yes...it was warm.
The next day, no.
But that is the beauty of visiting the Oregon Coast!
One day, sunny and warm,
then the next it's stormy with thunder and a little lightning.
But Murph and I don't dwell on the quick weather changes, we just roll with it.
Because nothing...
and I mean NOTHING,
makes us more happy than paws in the sand.
We play.
He runs like the wind with nothing in his way.
There isn't a care in the world when we're by the sea.
Sometimes I swear he take flight across the sand...zooooooooooom!
Nothing wipes the smile off our faces.
How can you not smile while watching pure joy explode all around you?
You can't!
When I see this,
it is bliss.
And I breathe better...
by the sea.

The beach life is for us...

Ahhh....Spring Break, how I miss you!
This is a little glance at our past beach trip
and our hopes for the future.
I'm not the only one that struggles returning to normal life
after a lovely, relaxing week at the beach.
Murphy has been a little depressed all week.
I know buddy...someday.
Someday we'll have a little place on the coast.
A place that family and friends can visit and forget
about the hustle and bustle of the world for a little bit.
A place where Murph can run and run and run.
He's different at the beach.
More relaxed, less worried about the people around him.
Just like me, I think that he even breathes better on the coast.

We don't need much...never do.
Just a place that we can hang out, play, and listen to the waves.

Our timetable didn't change.
We still wake up at 6am...head outside by 6:30,
but the play is different. More intense....
more interesting in that there are more creatures to find
or ones to find us like these seals did.

The seals were very curious about this loud barking dog splashing in the sea.
Murph wasn't too interested in them because there was so much splashing to do!

No matter what we do at the beach, Murphy and I are just more happy.

Some day buddy...some day.
Until then, we'll just keep our chins high and sing at the top of our lungs.
