Cupcake~ Fido #1000

Cupcake: Before & After
What the difference a couple hours and many hands make.

March 28, 2015 was a day for celebrations
We celebrated...
  • Cupcake, who was unchained
  • the 1000th Fido
  • Melinda and her 100th Fence Build
  • Rob and his 101st Fence Build
  • All of the amazing volunteers that spend their weekends helping others
  • the families that reach out to us for help with their dog
  • Donations supplied by the numerous hearts around the country
Thank you!
Take a look at the day of celebration and feel the love.
Cupcake~Fido #1000

With Fences For Fido, every fence build is a celebration,
but over the weekend the organization reached a milestone.
On Saturday, March 28, 2015 volunteers gathered
in Gaston, Oregon to unchain the 1000th fido.
How cool is that?!
So many fences constructed throughout Oregon and SW Washington
equals 1000 dogs who have had their lives changed
because people saw and people cared.
This special fence was built for a sweetheart of a dog named Cupcake.
With this fence we not only built a safe place for her to run,
but a safe place for her to play with her favorite humans too.
Enjoy a look into love and the simple things
that people do together that make a difference in the world.

Ranger the BC

I love border collies.
They are the best dogs in the world...
You'd have to be super new to my blog,
if you didn't know that. ;)
And if you are new, WELCOME!
But for all of you new folks,
I ADORE BORDER COLLIES!
So when I heard that there was going to be a fence build for a border collie,
I knew that I would be there.
Actually, I think that all of my FFF family knew that I would be there,
and that I would spend the build with the dog.
They were correct.
I spent the entire time with Ranger.
How could I not?!
Look at this face!
Adorable...
and this sweet boy hadn't played frisbee yet.
So what did I do?
I taught him how to play with a frisbee,
not catch...he still needs practice with that. :)
This was such a great build, with so many amazing people.
Enjoy a look at a fun day in the rain playing with Ranger
and building him a safe place to run.

March 14, 2015-
Volunteers gather in the rain to build freedom for Ranger the sweetheart of a border collie.
Ranger
Ranger is a well-loved Border Collie who needed to be chained outside
while his people were at work.
Then when his human heard about Fences For Fido,
she reached out for help.
Ranger is now enjoying his days running in his new fence
thanks to the volunteers at FFF.
Live Life Free,
Sweet Ranger!

Podcast Obsession

As a Chambers,
we have obsessions.
It's a commonly known issue in the family.
We get hooked on something
and boom,
we're hooked.

I have plenty of obsessions,
and unlike some family members,
my obsessions are generally free or have a minimal cost.
I don't like to think that I'm cheap...
I'm frugal.
:)

Since I spend much of my time in the kitchen,
binge-watching programs is not feasible...
but listening,
that is my bread and butter.

I listen to everything that I can download...
Yes, I spend that much time in my kitchen,
and getting ready in the morning,
and driving in my car,
and outside....and...
I mentioned that this is an obsession, right?!

Lately, I've been listening to podcast after podcast.
Two of my favorite podcast right now are,
This American Life and Snap Judgement.
What makes them so appealing to me is that it is about life.
Real people, living their lives and some times struggling through...
just like me.

This American Life
A weekly program that looks at aspects of America life.  Last week focused on students from a public school visiting a private school, just 3 miles apart.  It was a fascinating look at privilege and the perception of judgement.  It's a must listen.

550: Three Miles
MAR 13, 2015
There’s a program that brings together kids from two schools. One school is public and in the country’s poorest congressional district. The other is private and costs $43,000/year. They are three miles apart. The hope is that kids connect, but some of the public school kids just can’t get over the divide. We hear what happens when you get to see the other side and it looks a lot better.

Snap Judgement
There are so many podcasts to download, that you will never be left without something interesting to listen to.  Here are a couple of my favorites...

No Perfect Love

'"No Perfect Love." People can't recognize true relationships anymore. So, on the next Snap... we get real. Snap Judgment, storytelling with a beat, from NPR and PRX."

Proof

"On an all-NEW Snap, we have to put up -- or shut up. Snap Judgment proudly presents "Proof."  Storytelling, with a BEAT."

Now what are you waiting for?!
Get downloading and find something amazing!

My Grandma is older than Einstein's Theories

Last week my grandma had a birthday.
For most people, after they reach the big milestones birthdays,
birthdays blend together.
But if you're lucky to live long enough,
you get to hit NEW milestones, like 100.
And if you're SUPER lucky, you can hit a milestone birthday every year after a 100.
That is my grandma.
Last Wednesday my grandma turned 104.

Yep.
One hundred and four years old.
It's hard to comprehend, even for me!
Though she's always been older than the average grandma,
she's always seemed young to me.
When I look at all of the things that she's seen,
experiences, witnesses, or occurred during her lifetime,
it becomes clear how long of amazing her lifetime has been.
Of course, she's been alive through all of the World Wars and 1900's American History events,
that in itself is hard to imagine...
But here are a few more things that occurred during her life.

Things that my grandma is older than:
Albert Einstein's Theory of Gravity
Seriously?!  She's older than the Theory of Gravity?!  It's shocking, but true.
- Albert Einstein's General Theory of Relativity- (1915)
Wow! I wonder what her science books?  I guess it would stop at Newton's theories...

- New York Public Library- (1911)

- Girl Scouts- they were founded in 1912

- Titanic- She was born the year before it sank.

- Fenway Park- April 20, 1912
"The Red Sox defeated the New York Highlanders, later known as the Yankees"

- Wrigley Field- Opened April 23, 1914

- Mother's Day I thought that it was something that was around forever, well, I guess "forever" is really my grandma's lifetime.

- National Park Service (1916)- Founded- How in the world did they know where everything was without signs like this?

Happy 104th Birthday Grandma Mary!
Your life has been amazing and all the events in history prove it.
Cheers!

Kitchen Addiction

I'm addicted to purchasing things for my kitchen.
If I were to build a dream home,
it would have a HUGE...I mean MASSIVE kitchen.
A double oven,
enormous baking preparation island,
and large picture windows looking out
at my Murphy splashing in his fresh water pool.
I close my eyes and I can picture it all.
Can't you?

There are nothing wrong with having big dreams.
For without them,
what would we hope and strive for in life?

Until the day that I can create an ideal kitchen,
I will just gather ideas on Pinterest
and purchase adorable items to one day
make it presence known in my dream kitchen.
